Can i re register a scrapped vehicle

Does anyone know anything about re-registering a car that MAY have already been declared as scrapped. The other person now is disposing of is car but doesn't know whether it is actually registered as scrapped or not and it's no good asking the original owner as he is no longer of this World. Has anyone any experience of this area? You could go from the point of view that the person you bought it from couldn't find the V5 and take it from there.

I don't know what the score is if it has been declared as being scrapped though. M80 Senior Member. Knowing it's registration and make try a car tax enquiry. I've had contact from someone elsewhere and he bought a car in exactly similar circumstances.

He rang DVLA who said there was a scrapped marker on the car and they would remove it on him applying for a V5. New V5 arrived without problem.

About registering your motor vehicle. If you are a title holder of a new, pre-owned, built or re-built motor vehicle, you must register it at your relevant registering authority to get a registration certificate. If the vehicle is financed, the title holder will be the financing institution. When it has been registered and licenced, you will get a motor vehicle licence disc.

You must register and license your motor vehicle within 21 days after a change of ownership. If you do not register it, you will have to pay arrears and penalties. The motor vehicle registration is recorded on the national traffic information system eNaTIS. This is usually free. You can take parts from your vehicle before you scrap it so you can use them to repair another vehicle.

It must be kept off the road, for example in a garage, on a drive or on private land. Check what you need to do. To help us improve GOV. It will take only 2 minutes to fill in. Cookies on GOV. UK We use some essential cookies to make this website work.
