Why are tacomas overpriced

Do people just love them too much to sell them for a lower price? We set out to look find out why used Tacoma trucks rival the newer versions in price. We turned to our trusted colleagues at Consumer Reports in our quest to better understand the competitive market for used Toyota Tacoma trucks. The Tacoma scored a 5-out-of-5 in reliability, a rating that scores how models have performed in the past.

Subsequent models from and also scored 5-out-of-5 in reliability. Scoring high on vehicle reliability was, well reliable, until just recently. In , the Toyota redesigned the truck for the first time in 10 years, and the scores for the vehicle plummeted, according to CR ratings. In fact, the Tacoma scored just 1-out-of-5 in reliability. Toyota has the leanest inventory of all automakers. For example, demand for the Toyota 4Runner has outpaced supply on the new car lot. This sends prospective new vehicle buyers to used models.

Yes, used Toyota Tacoma models are pretty reliable options. According to Consumer Reports , the Toyota Tacoma has a reliability rating of four out of five. This is an above-average score. Used Tacomas have low reports of maintenance issues regarding the engine, transmission, body integrity, power equipment, suspension, and more.

This excellent resale value is the reason why used Tacomas look so expensive compared to other trucks that depreciate at a faster rate. Automotive Industry reports that North American dealerships are really struggling to get their hands on the Toyota Tacoma. While the compact truck has always had a loyal customer base, one major reason behind the recent spike in demand is a microchip shortage that could go on until As a result, Tacoma production has slowed down significantly consequently driving up the price of the popular truck.

According to Consumer Reports , these compact trucks are reliable workhorses that are built to comfortably handle daily tasks and off-road adventures. With fairly little maintenance, multiple Tacoma owners report clocking upwards of K miles with very few serious issues popping up. This exceptional reliability means that people are more likely to be willing to pay more for new and used Tacomas than they might be for a truck that is less likely to last a long time.

Previously owned Tacomas are at times more expensive than the models entering the market due to declining reliability scores. Some - dealers especially - over price used Tacoma's. There's a reason why Tacoma's are consistently priced well above everything else. They're better built, and remain functional for much longer than the competition.

And if buyers didn't agree with that - they'd be buying more used Rangers and Frontiers. LocknLoad , Dec 1, It's a pile of cash now. Sterdog , Dec 1, I agree my 04 before the totaled crash was on its way to k miles or more no doubt, but Im hearing that Nissan Frontiers going k mark and still ok. And also having 3 Toyota consecutively I want a change but I also know Tacos reliability is bulletproof, but Nissan although less reliable but not much behind Toyota but far greater reliabilty than Chevy,Ford.
